BIG thanks to you ALL – from our Jo!
I would like to thank everyone involved at the Main St Food & Wine Festival minifield. It was a terrific day, the sun was out the crowds were good and we had fun! Our new banner was shown for the first time along with the Gazebo. Our friends the Dragonflys were next door and it was fabulous to catch up with the gals. They are always on the lookout for new members. It is on my bucket list. They are off to Canberra so best of luck gals!
We raised about $400 for Breast Intentions, $600 for BCNA and the Dragonflys about $1000. More importantly some women (and men) came and spoke individually to our members to receive info, tell a story or just have a chat. We also got to enjoy some fabulous food and ran into most of the peninsula.
Friday saw us at Cruden Farm BCNA Minifield, helping the Mornington Peninsula Wig Library raise much needed funds to purchase new wigs. They have approximately 200 wigs out on loan at the moment. It was a great day- credit goes to Kate Smith and Virginia Howard (PPH Chemo Ward) for the organisation. Thank you again to our beautiful Lee Murphy who with her friends sang their hearts out. They were absolutely magic. Our thoughts are with Lee as her mum is receiving treatment again, you are both in our thoughts and prayers. Jo Johnsons’ daughter Holly once again sang beautifully for the crowd. The gardens also looked fantastic. Channel 10 were there and we hope to see some of our smiling and crying faces on Monday 26th with David and Kim. Thank you to all who gave up their day to help. We met old friends and made some new ones as well. Once again the banner and gazebo were put to good use. We had some lovely comments about the ‘Intent on Life’ slogan. Breast Intentions manned the BCNA stall and sold about $600 of merchandise. Our silhouettes from Main St were displayed again.
Thank you again. You never ceased to inspire me. Love Jo

Receipes For Living

15 October 2009
Recipes for Living – Finding the new ‘normal’ after a cancer
diagnosis
A free public forum for women living with breast cancer or a gynaecological cancer.
BreaCan, a gynaecological and breast cancer support service, is hosting a free public forum
for women living with breast cancer or a gynaecological cancer, their family and friends on
Saturday, November 14th in Frankston.
Jo Lovelock, a Mornington based Breast Care Nurse and breast cancer survivor of 6 years,
said this is a great opportunity for women living in the area to connect with each other.
“The Recipes for Living forum is designed to give women with cancer an opportunity to
meet informally and to share their experiences. Women will also be able to find out more
about local services and supports” Ms Lovelock said.
“I hope women attending the forum will gain important information and ideas on living with a
cancer diagnosis, whether it is during treatment or sometime after. I’m also really hoping
that women with advanced disease will join the forum to link together, as there are many
living with advanced cancer on the peninsula.”
Di Missen, Manager of BreaCan, said the forum will give women a chance to access
information, participate in a variety of activities and to connect with other women in a similar
situation living in their local area.
“The forum will feature a presentation by Maria Ftanou, Psychologist from Peter
MacCallum, on finding your ‘new normal’ after a cancer diagnosis. The key focus will be on
how a cancer diagnosis impacts many facets of a women’s life, and what practical tools
women can use to assist with living well” Ms Missen said.
“There will also be an opportunity for women to participate in one of three enjoyable and
creative workshops, which aim to be informative and fun.”
Recipes for Living – A forum for women living with breast or a gynaecological cancer is
being held at the Best Western Frankston International, 389 Nepean Highway, Frankston
on Saturday, November 14th between 9.30am and 3.30pm.
To register your interest and for more information please contact the BreaCan Resource
Centre on 1300 781 500 or email breacan@breacan.org.au
BreaCan is a gynaecological and breast cancer support service located on the ground floor of the Queen
Victoria Women’s Centre. BreaCan provides information and support through its resource centre which is open
Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 10am – 2pm. The resource centre is staffed by trained volunteers who have
personally experienced breast or gynaecological cancer. BreaCan is a service of Women’s Health Victoria and
funded by the Department of Health. BreaCan receives over 2000 contacts for support or information each year.
