JULY NEWSLETTER

August 4th Meeting – Bays Hospital, Mornington 07:00 pm. Raffle Drawn @ 8pm
A message from our Jo…
Dear Gals,
We had a fantastic turn up to The Grand for dinner-22 in all.
Welcome to Lauren, Rachel, Susie, Trudy & Jenny. I was out of sorts (sinus stuff) and am just going back to work today (20th!).
Thanks to all who bought raffle tickets and to those who took them to sell. (That wasn’t why I collected all the ½ price dockets...) Can all the stubs be back before the next meeting, unless you are DEFINITELY going as that’s when we draw it! If you are unsure just pop the stubs in the mail and I will collect the $ later or drop them off to the hospital or home, whatever is easy!
The lovely Chris Rolls’ work had a morning tea and collected $250 for the group. We need to think about what to do with it! Books, CDs or as follows...have a think!
My Yoga group recently put on a day for a bus load of women from a bushfire affected area. We hired Eldon Park and then spent the day with Reiki, massage eating and cuppas. They have offered to do the same for YOU all. The plan would be for the group to hire the place (approx $100) and all to bring a plate to share for morning tea/ lunch. The options are for a group Pilates session approx 30 mins, group Tai Chi session and then 1:1 massage/Reiki. Let me know your thoughts it depends on dates and when people are available to help out. Probably a Saturday - October at the moment.
Take Care and See you at the raffle drawing! Jo x

MY FIRST REGATTA by Kerrie Waworis
Albury Regatta - 6-7 March, 2010 Seems like the trip was ages ago, but I said I’d write something on the Albury Regatta for the newsletter, then realised I don’t have any result sheets or anything from the “sporting” side to really write about, other than the fact that we teamed up with the gals from Geelong and our DA team won some bling for 3rd place. We also held another trophy in the Sports Division for about 5-minutes, but sadly lost it in a ‘count-back’!
But while I don’t recall too many other results, I do remember the fun I had on this, my first, Regatta Weekend away.
Meeting at Kerry’s (K1) along with Sharon (Shazza) had a “Thelma & Louise” feel about it for me as I had no idea what the weekend would bring. But off we go... heading for the border, mandatory stop at Maccas for brekky at Wangaratta where we met up with Karen & Ian and Patsy & Jim and a few others.
Arriving at Albury, we discover our “tour organiser” K1 had booked into a motel just across from the Regatta venue - well done! Rooms were nice and big for the price, air-conditioning worked, pool was sparkling and refreshing (we even had a poolboy- Ian) and motel held speed-dating events of an evening (which we sadly missed)!!!
Saturday afternoon we all got together at the regatta venue for some trial runs with the Juggernaut Girls.... As a team we were entered as the “Dragon Jugs” (someone either had a good sense of humour or was very observant!!!). It was a stinking hot day, so it was back to the pool for a swim and a few drinks before we headed out on Saturday night.
Don’t know what most people do on Saturday nights, but dressing up in tinsel covered orange bras, hats and masks and parading down the main street in not normally on my agenda. But we did it. What a hoot! We had Banner Boy and Pool Boy carrying a banner out front and we proudly paraded behind them. Jim bought up the rear in his orange lycra outfit. If there was a King (or Queen) of the parade – he would have won the award hands-down.
Sunday morning we woke to massive black clouds and threatening weather, so we knew we were in for an eventful race meeting. Just as the regatta began the rains came...and came...and came. There we were all soaked, huddled under our little shelter, sliding around in the mud and having great fun. In spite of the weather, we all raced well and as I said earlier, our DA team won bling. But the overwhelming memory of the day is the RAIN!
One experience that I found very moving being the first time that I had ever seen it was the “Flowers On the Water” ceremony. In the midst of all the racing and fun, it was lovely to pause, come together with strangers and as a group remember others for just a few moments.
By the end of the day, a HOT Shower and HOT dinner was order of the day. We all met up at a good Irish Pub in Albury for dinner to celebrate our ‘bling’ and reflect on the fun we had had over the weekend. Then back to the motel for a good night’s sleep!
Monday morning we headed back down the Hume Hwy to Melbourne, stopping to show ‘Shazza’ Ned Kelly on the way.
I don’t know about others, but making that step to join a ‘club’ on my own is something way out of my normal comfort zone..... But I did it! and after this trip away I am so glad I did.
Did I have fun? Yes! and a big thank-you everyone that went. I’m so looking forward to Hobart in September.
